“When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence.”
— Ansel Adams
“Next to the Word of God, the noble art of
music is the greatest treasure in the world.”

Donald Arthurs was born and raised in a small rural town between Cleveland and Pittsburgh and is the sole member of Darthurs. The music of Darthurs is a unique blend of musical influences including alternative hiphop, electronic, and metal spanning several decades. Darthurs’ core sound consists of bass guitar, piano, synth and driving beats, while many of his honest and emotional lyrics chronicle his struggles with anxiety, depression, and obsessive compulsive tendencies. Donald gives a glimpse of the darkness that consumes so many, but also offers a path of redemption and hope that he found through his relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Donald, a successful entrepreneur in the tech world, left the corporate life in his thirties to pursue his creative passions which include music, film, photography, and art with the formation of Back to Dust Studios.
Donald grew up with humble roots, the son of a blue collar worker and homemaker. He spent most of his childhood using his imagination and playing the family synthesizer. Donald’s music was the perfect release to soothe the gripping hold that anxiety had on him. He started playing bass guitar at the age of fourteen and spent most evenings in the basement writing metal tunes with his older brother dreaming of someday becoming a professional musician. Donald eventually settled down a few years after high school to start a family and had to put his musical ambitions on hold. Many years later, Donald experienced a horrific crush injury to his left hand that partially paralyzed two of his fingers. Donald feared that he wouldn’t be able to play the guitar or piano the same again, but by the grace of God and a lot of effort, he regained most of his functionality and was able to retrain himself.
Currently, Donald is in a position that gives him the opportunity to pursue his creative passions to their fullest. By using his music as self-induced therapy, Donald wrote, performed, and produced the eleven songs that make up his first album “Struggle”. For example, “Thorn in My Flesh” tells the story of his time of deep depression he experienced with a chronic health issue. Songs like “Inside”, “Struggle”, “Henry” and “State of Mind” take a deep look into dealing with self-doubt, anxiety, and inner demons. “Overtime” gives the listener a glimpse into an obsessive mind that doesn’t shut off. Donald is excited to share his art and speak to the hearts of those who need to hear the messages contained in his music and prays that it may be a blessing to those who are struggling.
“He who works with his hands is a laborer.
He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman.
He who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist.”
― Saint Francis of Assisi
“You turn people back to dust, saying, "Return to dust, you mortals.”
